House of Cars
Innovation and the Parking Garage
National Building Museum
Assemble provided exhibition design services for a history exhibition focusing on the impact of automobiles on architecture and America's built landscape in the 20th Century.
In the early 20th century, automobiles transformed American cities and towns. Traffic and storage were new challenges that produced new architectural forms and engineering innovation. The parking garage became a key component of urban planning but also a disruption in the scale and function of street-scapes. House of Cars explores the relationship between parked cars, the built environment and American identity.
